PENGURUSAN Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has launched its Hydrolytics MetLab, a metrology innovation centre dedicated to the science of measurement, to ensure its water meters are impeccable in terms of accuracy and reliability.

This is in line with its mission to provide better customer experience for 9.1 million consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

At the launch of the innovation centre in Sungai Besi, Air Selangor acting chief executive officer Abas Abdullah said the Hydrolytics MetLab was the only water meter testing laboratory in Malaysia that was accredited by the Department of Standards Malaysia for its capacity to test water meters of a size up to 200mm, compared to the national laboratory’s capacity to test water meters up to a maximum of 80mm only.

“The launch of this facility is Air Selangor’s strategy to record accurate water usage and reduce the degradation of water usage records at all times for our growing number of consumers.

“It can also assist Air Selangor in our efforts to reduce the rate of non-revenue water, as well as enable us to make informed and timely decisions to increase efficiency and optimise costs,” said Abas.

“By combining analytical data and water meter-profiling data, Air Selangor is no longer solely reliant on the ‘wear and tear’ of any meter, as well as any previous best practice, as the basis for changing water meters,” he added.

Hydrolytics MetLab is also a pioneer in Malaysia in providing testing facilities for all types and sizes of water meters following the standardised regulation of International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML).

Abas said this achievement was aligned with Air Selangor’s aspirations to become a leading water services provider in Asia by 2030.
