THE Bukit Damansara House Owners Association (BDHOA) is urging motorists to use the flyover from Petaling Jaya to Kuala Lumpur to avoid congestion.
Part of the Sprint Expressway and located near the Jalan Maarof-Jalan Johar intersection, the flyover was opened on July 1.
However, BDHOA vice-president Ravi Markandu observed many that motorists were still taking the old route by turning left into Jalan Johar and right into Jalan Beringin before using the elevated Damansara Link to Jalan Semantan to enter the interchange onto Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim.
Ravi said the new elevated highway would allow motorists to bypass Jalan Johar and Jalan Beringin, thus avoiding the bottleneck at the Jalan Semantan-Jalan Dungun junction.
Regular visitor to the area, Maheswaran Suppiah Kandasamy said the bottleneck at peak hours caused traffic congestion from Damansara Link (near Victoria Station).
“Motorists can find themselves getting stuck in a 45-minute-crawl from Damansara Link to the Jalan Semantan-Jalan Dungun junction due to this bottleneck.”
He said two lanes of traffic were being squeezed into one at the Jalan Semantan-Jalan Dungun junction.
Motorists could be given more space with the removal of the island at this junction, he added.
A check by StarMetro found that many Kuala Lumpur-bound motorists on the left lane were forced to manoeuvre past this island to squeeze into a single lane on the right.
However, by taking the newly opened lanes to Kuala Lumpur right before the Jalan Maarof-Jalan Johar intersection, motorists can save themselves from being caught in the Jalan Semantan-Jalan Dungun bottleneck.
