JINJANG Selatan Tambahan squatters want to be relocated due to their deteriorating living conditions.
Community activist Yee Poh Ping said the squatter settlement located in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, was surrounded by rubbish, overgrown grass and poorly-maintained drainage.
“When part of the land in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan was earmarked for a mixed development a few years ago, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) relocated some of the squatters to people’s housing projects (PPR).”
Yee said the squatters still living there were occupying land gazetted for educational purposes.
He said DBKL had stated that the relocation of squatters on the land was not under their jurisdiction and was dependent on the school’s construction, which has yet to happen.
“The squatters cannot afford to move to better locations on their own.
“Originally, there were plans to build low-cost housing at the mixed development, we hope this will happen and they can move there,” he said.
Taman Jinjang Baru resident Chou Leong Hock, who stays nearby, said DBKL should clear the rubbish and clean the drains.
