Selangor government has allocated two 4.04ha plots to build a branch of Klang’s Pin Hwa High School in Kota Kemuning and expand Pusat Pendidikan Al-Amin in Gombak.
Caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari made the announcement and handed approval letters to representatives from both schools during the Selangor School Aid 2023 programme.
“Both plots were allocated based on their needs,” he said, adding that each school would have to bear the cost for their projects.
Amirudin said the two schools were chosen as the state government was satisfied with their applications to expand.
“There are only four private secondary Chinese schools in Selangor and the application for a new one has been in the works for over three years,” he said.
Amirudin also announced that SJK (T) Ladang Midlands, Shah Alam, would receive RM300,000 for the management of a new hostel capable of housing 200 pupils.
Earlier, at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, he presented RM26.5mil aid to 988 schools for this year.
He said some RM260mil had been disbursed to schools in Selangor since 2009, with this year’s amount being the highest. The aid will be mainly for repairs and improving the infrastructure of public religious schools, Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools, Chinese private secondary schools, mission schools and national schools.
“Even though (funding) is the responsibility of Education Ministry, we provide this aid to schools in Selangor to better meet their needs,” he said.
Amirudin said Selangor’s role as an economic powerhouse was tied to education and investments and would aid human capital development.
“We hope to strengthen the education system in the years to come, especially in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as well as religious studies,” he added.
