ISSUES such as frequent floods and the maintenance of public amenities in Kulai will be addressed when planning for next year’s district budget.
In giving the assurance, Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) president Mohd Fahmi Salam said a recent discussion on the drafting of the budget also looked into the district’s future direction.
“The MPKu budget for 2024 will focus on initiatives that support economic growth and the people’s welfare, including flood mitigation projects, infrastructure and facility maintenance as well as providing aid to traders.
“Another session will be held at the state level soon to go over the budget in detail,” he said when chairing the council’s monthly full board meeting.
Mohd Fahmi hoped all plans could be carried out smoothly, including the Kulai District Local Plan 2030, which is set to be implemented next month.
“This document will replace the Kulai District Local Plan 2025.
“The plan was produced after taking into account the views of stakeholders and will be our main point of reference in developing the areas under MPKu.
“I hope departments and agencies such as Tourism Johor can also provide suggestions to strengthen the tourism and agriculture sectors.
“This can boost Kulai’s economic growth.
“For example, authorities can increase the flight routes (at the Senai International Airport) to connect Kulai and Johor with more major cities in the world.”
On a separate matter, he said MPKu was expanding its online licensing system to encourage more business premises to switch to using digital licences.
To date, 6,519 business premises have started using the E-Licences system and the council wants those who have yet to make the switch to do so, he said,
He added that the system had helped MPKu increase its revenue.
