FOOTBALL matches can now be held at night following the commissioning of the a new sports facility in the Permai housing estate in Sibu, Sarawak.
The much-awaited project, costing RM2mil sits on 1.33ha of land.
Among its facilities are synthetic field – the first in the central region – flood lights, a players’ changing room, a public toilet and a carpark.
Sarawak Deputy Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the football field project was a sports facility that would benefit youths in Sibu.
“Two years ago, Sibu had the longest skateboard plaza in Malaysia. We are doing this for the youths,” he said at the launch of the Sarawak Youth Tour Programme 2023 @Pelawan and @Nangka.
He said he worked hard with Bukit Assek and Pelawan assemblymen Joseph Chieng and Michael Tiang, respectively, to ensure the youths in Sibu would not lag behind their peers in the state.
“I hope Sibu youths can submit good ideas and suggestions to the Sarawak government throughout the programme,” he said, adding it was the best platform for youths to voice their aspirations and needs to the state government.
“Use this platform and create ideas. What do you want the government to do for the youths in Sibu?” said Annuar, who is Nangka assemblyman.
Sarawak Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu urged the youths to join the government and develop Sarawak.
“The implementation of the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which is an initiative from the Sarawak government, requires the support of the youth to be empowered and equally involved in that direction,” he added.
