THIS year’s Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) will showcase the vibrant traditions, arts and cuisines of diverse communities in the region from July 14 to 23 at Sibu Town Square, Sarawak.
“This is an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate the unity in diversity that defines our region,” said organising chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley at a press conference.
He said there would be international performers – from Thailand, Indonesia and China – during the international night on July 22.
Talented artists representing the Chinese, Dayak and Malay-Melanau ethnic groups will be present at their respective pavilions.
“Be prepared to be mesmerised by traditional dances, music and storytelling that showcase our rich heritage,” said Mohammed Abdullah, who is also deputy chairman of Sibu Municipal Council.
Visitors to the BCF can also discover the craftsmanship of local artisans at the arts and culture exhibition.
“From wood carvings to weaving and beading, the exhibition will offer a fascinating glimpse into the artistic traditions passed down through the generations,” said Mohammed Abdullah.
“Sarawak Craft Council will be one of the main exhibitors,” he said.
The food fair will feature an array of traditional delicacies at the Chinese, Dayak and Malay-Melanau pavilions.
Visitors can try their hand at traditional instrument playing, learn the art of weaving and participate in a cooking class featuring local recipes.
“We also have the Melanau Itut or Tibau swing and a one-day international blowpipe competition,” added Mohammed Abdullah.
