ADULT visitors want Taman Jaya Park to be well maintained and welcome the long overdue upgrading work which is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.
Section 6 Rukun Tetangga chairman Rajesh Mansukhlal wants Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to have a good maintenance plan for all amenities in the park.
“MBPJ should do more to find out what people want for the park.
“The locals have only two big parks nearby. The other park is Taman Aman.
“We need to ensure the parks in Petaling Jaya are properly managed.
“Kuala Lumpur City Hall has nice parks that are better maintained than ours. I understand they have bigger budgets compared to MBPJ.
“However, MBPJ can still carry out better maintenance by having park rangers go on frequent rounds to ensure all is well.
“It can also put up signboards on the dos and don’ts for park visitors,” he said.
Rajesh said if lack of manpower was an issue, MBPJ could instal close- circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor the place from the MBPJ Smart Centre building.
Rajesh added that recently, the Bukit Gasing hiking trail in Petaling Jaya underwent an upgrade that was done well because the contractor consulted the resident groups.
“We are happy with the outcome because we got what we wanted.
“We can have good and appropriate facilities when there is more engagement with the residents,” he said.
Section 10 Residents Association chairman Ronald Danker said the lighting at the park needed to be improved as the place was dark at night.
“We have informed MBPJ numerous times about this important safety concern.
“Students who use the Taman Jaya LRT station have to pass by the park late evenings while senior citizens visit the park early in the morning.
“The park must be brightly lit but some lights are faulty.”
He added that the lake should offer boating activities after the upgrade is completed.
“Some 15 years ago, residents could enjoy boating at the lake. It should be brought back,” he said.
He was also concerned about park visitors bringing their dogs without leashes and the litterbugs.
“The council must place enforcement officers at the park.
“We also have visitors drinking and playing loud music at night at the carpark. The security needs to be improved,” added Danker.
Community activist Selva Sugumaran said the jogging tracks at the park had holes and cracks.
“MBPJ should also instal more exercise equipment inside the park, he said, welcoming the lake’s upgrade as the last one was in the 1980s.
