STAKEHOLDERS in Pandan Perdana’s commercial area in Ampang, Selangor will face tougher enforcement to ensure they keep their surroundings clean.
The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has initiated a campaign that starts with education and after a period, will result in them getting fined.
MPAJ councillor R. Moganraj said the campaign was meant to educate the community on proper waste disposal.
“Each day, we see piles of rubbish thrown indiscriminately on pedestrian walkways and even at parking spots.
“We started off educating stakeholders about proper waste disposal, but after a suitable period, MPAJ will issue compounds to those who fail to do so,” he said.
Since the implementation of the programme in May, Moganraj said there had been a drop in illegal dumping.
“There were two illegal dumping hotspots at Jalan Perdana 4/8 and 4/5 that have been cleared.
“However, we have received complaints of other dumping spots which need to be addressed,” he said.
The council’s enforcement team and waste management department will also be involved in handling cases of illegal dumping.
The council will also enforce certain rules, such as each business being required to have dustbins.
“While it is compulsory, not everyone has abided by it so MPAJ will enforce this soon.”
On a separate matter, MPAJ’s Solid Waste and Public Cleaning Department issued 19 verbal warnings to residents in Bandar Baru Ampang for illegal dumping.
Following complaints, officers on duty at Jalan Wawasan 1/10 spotted the culprits dumping their rubbish in an undesignated spot.
