If your budget allows, you may also light up a scented candle to help relax the mind and body. There are different ways to meditate, just find one that suits you.
2. Playing with furry friends
Interacting with adorable animals like cats, dogs and rabbits can improve our mood quickly. Pets share our days with us and provide companionship. They also fulfil the human need to touch and cuddle.
3. Create your own coffee break
Feel free to take a refreshing break during a hectic morning or afternoon. Sip a cup of coffee and eat a piece of decadent cake, either at home or at a coffeeshop. Even just 10 minutes can give your mind and body time to settle down and relax.
4. Biking at the park
General cardiovascular exercise releases feel-good hormones called endorphins in your brain that make you feel happier. Exercise also improves quality of sleep at night.
5. Reading books
Escape from the stress of daily life by opening a romance, fantasy or mystery novel to enter a fun literary world. The simple act of reading can lower your heart rate and relax stiff muscles. Reading books can also help you develop creativity and improve your general knowledge.
6. Volunteer work
Doing community work can provide
a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem and life satisfaction. You
are doing good things for your community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. You will feel a sense of pride. In addition, it also helps you to meet new friends, expand your network and improve your social skills.
7. Call a friend to chat
It is okay to call and share with your friend about feeling down or lonely. College students who are away from their hometown can find it hard to make new friends in a new environment. They may feel embarrassed to call their parents. Hence, calling old friends to share happiness and tears is another way to reduce stress. Friends may also give constructive opinions.
8. Go on food adventure
Trying new food can heighten a sense of wonder and even adventure. While students need to watch their budget, it can be boring and tedious having to eat the same food every day. During semester breaks, you can search for new food to try. A nice new dish can be a relatively inexpensive way to treat yourself for getting good grades.
9. Listen to music
Music lightens your mood and reduces anxiety. You can spare half an hour each day to listen to your favourite music when you feel down or depressed.
10. Sleeping in
Students find sleep a luxury they cannot afford. Classes, assignments, homework and exams take up so much time and there is the temptation to burn the candle at both ends. But make sure you get enough sleep every night as you will think more clearly and be more alert in class. As a result, you will do better in your studies.
