GUESTS came dressed in their Bollywood best for the grand reunion of Persatuan Agama Sikh Universiti Malaya (Pasum).
The event, which was attended by about 150 past and present students, was made possible through the efforts of Meninder Kaur Jessy and her team, comprising Kuljit Kaur, Kiran Pannu, Harijit Singh and Mahesh Biaspal.
“We contacted seniors from the 1960s to the 2023 batch who are currently studying in UM.
“This is the second reunion since the first one in 2014.
“We initially planned to have it in 2020 but the Covid-19 pandemic put paid to that.
“It also made us realise that life is short and we should make it a point to meet up,” Meninder said in a media statement.
The first Pasum president, Randhir Singh from the 1977 batch, said that not all Punjabis are Sikhs.
“Pasum was a platform for Punjabi-speaking students to mingle and participate in cultural activities in UM,” he said in his speech.
The Bollywood Nite-themed reunion featured dance performances from different batches, as well as singing, lucky draws, music and games as guests tucked into the North Indian spread at the Havelly Kuala Lumpur.
Among those present was Raghbir Singh from the 1969 batch who said: “The dinner was indeed a great opportunity to catch up with friends from over five decades.”
Germail Singh, from batch 1979, said the event provided the perfect opportunity for Punjabi-speaking UM graduates to renew acquaintances and make new friends.
Kuljinder Kaur from batch 1981 said the reunion was a nostalgic and vibrant night with lots of laughter and cheer, but also sadness as guests remembered those who had passed away.
Many guests went home with prizes from the lucky draw.
Mahesh Biaspal from batch 1993 was judged the Best Dressed Male while Reshvinder Kaur from batch 1995 was Best Dressed Female. They came dressed respectively as actor Dev Anand and actress Zeenat Aman.
Azmi Abdullah from batch 1983 kicked off the reunion with a solo dance while batch 1991 received a prize for having the highest number of attendees.
The night ended with guests moving to the beat on the dance floor until early morning.
