Selangor government has selected the Mobi demand- responsive transit (DRT) service to tackle traffic congestion and improve last-mile connectivity for Subang Jaya residents.

The service is operated by BadanBas Coach Sdn Bhd, which has been selected as one of the companies for the pilot project under the state government’s mobility programme that aims to address first and last-mile connectivity challenges.

BadanBas Coach chief executive officer Ibrahim Aiman Mohd Nizam said Mobi’s DRT service utilised “virtual stops”.

“Currently, there are 265 virtual stops located throughout Subang Jaya, ensuring that commuters have multiple options for their journey.

“The beauty of DRT is its ability to easily create virtual stops in response to demand,” he said adding that they had served 15,000 passengers and received 3,000 bookings since the launch over three months ago, “averaging 100 passengers per day.”

Currently, Mobi operates only in Subang Jaya and the surrounding area of Bandar Sunway. However, there are plans to expand the shared shuttle service throughout Selangor.

Vans are the service’s preferred vehicle and can accommodate up to 15 passengers.

Mobi operations manager Mohd Zawawi Zukfily said that using their service could be cost-saving, especially when travelling in a group.

“Mobi offers two payment options, pay-per-use and subscription, with a fixed maximum fare of RM4.

“If you are travelling in a group, each person only pays an additional RM1,” he said.

Mobi’s DRT service does not charge extra fees during peak periods.

Selangor local government, public transportation and new village development committee caretaker chairman Ng Sze Han took a ride around town to experience the service.

He urged people in Subang Jaya who frequently travelled for work or study in the area, to make use of the DRT service.

“By doing so, we can effectively reduce traffic congestion and make a positive contribution towards reducing carbon emissions in our community,” he said.

The public can access the DRT service through the Mobi Community Mobility app, and as a welcome offer, they are entitled to five free rides.

The service operates daily from 6am to 10pm. For details, go to mobi.badanbascoach.com.my
