Ayer Hitam wet market and public park have been given a facelift to provide visitors with a more comfortable environment.

Johor health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said both upgrading projects were funded with the state’s allocation of RM700,000.

“When Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi visited Ayer Hitam last year, he saw the need for the public spaces to be upgraded so he agreed to the allocation.

“From the funds, RM500,000 was used for the public park.

“The upgrading included replacing the children’s playground facilities, installing exercise equipment, adding more lighting and shelter as well as a installing a jogging track.

“The 30-lot wet market was given an awning, waste dumping area plus a fresh coat of paint.

“We hope traders and customers can now enjoy a cleaner and better environment,” he said after visiting the refurbished wet market.

Ling, who is also Yong Peng assemblyman, said the upgrades took about 10 weeks and both projects had been handed over to the local council.

He reminded the public to take care of the facilities.

Earlier, Ling visited the 37-year-old Ayer Hitam health clinic, which received RM1mil from the Health Ministry to upgrade its damaged ceilings, gates, toilets and staff quarters as well as get a paint job.

He said the ministry also agreed to channel RM600,000 to upgrade the Parit Amil rural health clinic in Yong Peng.

“The old rural clinic has been operating for more than 60 years and its wooden structure is quite damaged from years of use and termites.

“I hope the funds will be used to upgrade both health facilities to offer even better service.”
