Expansive RM20mil badminton arena in Cheras opens to public

AN ENHANCED sporting experience awaits badminton enthusiasts at the newly unveiled 12-court badminton complex in Taman Pertama, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur.

Situated off Jalan Ikan Mas, the 9,117sq m Arena Badminton DBKL Cheras features a tournament hall with two courts and tiered seating that can accommodate 619 spectators.

Other amenities include 10 training courts, a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 450, gymnasium, cafeteria, surau (prayer room) and ample parking.

The RM20mil complex is a collaboration between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Mah Sing Group Bhd, and will be managed by DBKL.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh expressed his satisfaction with the high-quality badminton arena for public use.

“I believe this arena has been constructed to meet the highest standards, ensuring a top-quality experience for players.

“Not only does this facility serve as a platform for nurturing badminton talent but it will also help promote a healthy and active lifestyle,” Kamarulzaman said at the launch of the badminton complex.

Also at the launch was Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who commended Mah Sing for building facilities for the community.

“Mah Sing has ventured into various developmental projects beyond its primary business, making significant contributions to improve society.

“Their efforts align with the government’s vision for Malaysia Madani.

“The badminton arena will provide a conducive environment for training and tournaments, benefitting aspiring athletes and badminton enthusiasts.

“We are delighted to witness the positive effects the facility is already bringing to the community,” she said.

She also spoke about the provision of a surau at the arena.

The prayer space spans 950sq m and can comfortably accommodate around 500 worshippers. It also provides a dedicated space for 200 female worshippers.

Mah Sing chief executive officer Datuk Ho Hon Sang said the badminton arena signified the fulfilment of the group’s promises and dedication to delivering excellence in every project.

“We aim to elevate the quality of life for residents of Kuala Lumpur by offering top leisure facilities that prioritise their well-being,” he added.

The event also saw Mah Sing mark milestones for M Vertica, one of its prominent affordable high-rise residential projects located next to the arena.

The milestones include setting a new record for having the biggest residential facility deck in Malaysia and receiving quality certification from the Construction Industry Development sBoard for scoring 83% in the Quality Assessment System in Construction.

Also at the launch was Mah Sing founder and group managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum.
