INCUMBENT Dusun Tua assemblyman Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof’s camp is keeping mum on whether the former Subang DAP Youth chief will defend his seat under the Pakatan Harapan coalition for the coming state elections.
Kampung Batu 16 village head and PKR member Md Gadapi Ahmad Harmain said there was a possibility that another candidate could contest Dusun Tua this time around.
However, no names have been bandied about.
Muda had announced that its Selangor chairman Al Hafiz Ikhwan, 33, will contest in Dusun Tua.
Al Hafiz is a Hulu Langat native. He holds a masters in architecture from University of Lincoln, United Kingdom.
Al Hafiz’s manifesto touches on issues such as floods, water supply disruptions, a more systematic waste management, road maintenance, a better telco network as well as improvement to public services such as ambulance and firefighting.
This will be his first time contesting in elections.
Meanwhile, Hulu Langat Bersatu head Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Abdul Latif said there was a high chance that the party would be contesting for the seat on the Perikatan Nasional coalition ticket.
At a recent gathering at the Tarbiyah Darul Hidayah Complex by Hulu Langat PAS division head Mohamad Jan Sulong, Mohd Radzi, who is a chartered marketer, was seen welcoming a convoy of 26 bikers from Kampung Donglai Baru, an Orang Asli village.
In his speech, Mohd Radzi addressed the need for the Orang Asli community to progress.
“It is time for Dusun Tua voters to think big so that the place can be a premier eco-tourist destination.
“But to achieve this, it is the elected representative’s job to first take care of basic needs like education, infrastructure and the welfare of the people,” he said.
Tipped as likely candidate for the seat is Dusun Tua Bersatu coordinator Zakaria Ismail, who is said to be a familiar face to the locals.
“PAS and Bersatu members are comfortable with him,” said Mohd Radzi.
Another possible candidate from Bersatu is its Armada (youth) assistant secretary Muhammad Faiz Rahmad who was seen posing with the bikers’ convoy from Kampung Donglai Baru.
In Muhammad Faiz’s social media posts, he is at the forefront of meetings organised for those who plan to volunteer at the Dusun Tua district voting centres.
Over in neighbouring Semenyih, there is still no confirmation if incumbent Zakaria Hanafi from Barisan Nasional-Umno will defend the seat he won during a by-election held in 2019 following the death of then assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor from Bersatu.
A check on Zakaria Hanafi’s social media pages has shown no campaigning activity.
This is in contrast to Hulu Langat Umno chief Datuk Wira Johan Abdul Aziz, who was Semenyih assemblyman for two terms from 2008 to 2018. Johan’s social media pages include several election-related posts.
In a post in March, Johan wrote that he was offering his services to the party and seeking support from fellow members.
Recently, he posted images of himself attending a committee meeting to discuss preparations for coming state elections. Eventually, Johan was named as Barisan candidate for Dusun Tua while Wan Zulaika Anua will run for the Semenyih seat.
Tipped to battle Barisan for the Semenyih seat is Selangor PAS information chief Nushi Mahfodz, 48.
A lecturer at International Islamic University, Nushi was a former councillor with Kajang Municipal Council in 2014.
Should he be elected, Nushi said that the first item on his agenda would be to establish good relations with the local authorities and government agencies to achieve a better working synergy for the benefit of his constituents.
Apart from Nushi, another possible candidate for the Aug 12 polls is Zukri Ahmad, the director of PAS’ national information department.
