ART lovers can immerse themselves in an exhibition which aims to showcase the beauty and transformative nature of water.
“The 4th Reflection of Nature: International Water Medium Art Exhibition,” jointly organised by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) and Impressions Arts Centre, is ongoing at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM in Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, until Aug 27.
The exhibition was launched by Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan.
A total of 38 artists from China, Taiwan, Ukraine, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia are participating in the exhibition, which showcases 59 artworks of various mediums such as watercolour, Chinese ink, acrylics, batik and mixed media.
“Through this exhibition, we have the privilege of witnessing the diverse and creative expressions of artists from around the world, united by their passion for arts.
“I hope this exhibition will be able to expand the waves of cultural and peace exchanges as well as the network of friendship among nations and regions,” said Khairul Firdaus during the opening ceremony.
In his welcoming speech, SGM general director Koh Sia Feai said, “Through art and culture, we get to celebrate diversity, the multitude of colours and cultures that exist in our world.”
“That is why we at SGM firmly believe that art and cultural exchanges are actions that foster friendship, understanding and peace.”
The participating artists from different generations have transcended differences.
Through their brushwork, they captured the magnificence of nature and the traces of time in their artworks.
The paintings encompass elements from the natural world such as the sun and moon, dawn, flora, mountains, rivers and watercourses as well as scenes from towns and the countryside.
There are also still life, portraits and the colourful splendour of the four seasons, forming a feast of beauty that radiates a brilliant light, said a statement.
Following the opening ceremony, the audience watched a live painting demonstration conducted by four participating artists.
The following day, a talk titled “The Possibilities of Watercolour and the Beauty of Water Medium” was delivered by watercolour artist Kuo Ming-fu, moderated by curator Becky Choong.
The exhibition is open from 11am to 5pm daily, and is closed on Mondays. Admission is free.
In conjunction with the exhibition, there will be a watercolour workshop by artist Yong Look Lam on July 30.
