TWO Chinese independent schools in Negri Sembilan have received donations worth RM300,000 from a charitable organisation known for helping the underprivileged with their medical costs.

The Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Association (NSCMA) donated RM200,000 to Chung Hua High School in Seremban, which plans to use the funds for development and to organise its 110th anniversary celebration.

Another RM100,000 went to Chung Hua High School Port Dickson, where the money will be used for educational purposes.

NSCMA vice-president Datuk Hon Choon Kim said the association, which subsidises payments for patients seeking treatment at the CMH Specialist Hospital and NSCMH Dialysis Care, was able to help out after clearing its own outstanding debts.

“We are happy to assist both schools as we have settled our commitments to president Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock and treasurer Datuk Tan Suan Ching.

“This also reflects our commitment to support the development of Chinese education,” he said.

NSCMA owns CMH Specialist Hospital, which started out as Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Hospital in 1932.

Both Lee and Tan had advanced millions of ringgit to save the hospital which was on the brink of closure a decade ago, due to spiralling debts and poor management.

The hospital had also been slapped with a partial closure by the Health Ministry for violating provisions under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998.

Hon said NSCMA had always aimed to help those in need and the improved finances of CMH Specialist Hospital would enable it to do so.

“With this, we will not only be able to assist patients but also set aside funds to support various groups through our outreach programmes,” he said.

The NSCMA, he added, had disbursed more than RM4.75mil to needy patients so far.

“With the funds generated, we will be able to continue to engage in meaningful initiatives to assist underprivileged groups and work hand in hand with our patients to make a positive impact on the community,” he said.
