THE Federal Government has allocated RM5mil to resolve flooding at nine hotspots in Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri.

Kota Iskandar assemblyman Datuk Pandak Ahmad said the request was made by the state government following flash floods in June.

“One of the hotspots is at Jambatan Besi, which is between Jalan Gelang Patah and Pendas Laut.

“It was always blocked, causing water to flow into nearby villages.

“Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had made the allocation request to the Federal Government,” he said after a flood aid handover ceremony at Dewan Taman Nusantara, Gelang Patah.

Pandak said the other hotspots were in Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters (SiLC), Kampung Melayu, Taman Nusantara, Nusajaya Tech Park, Taman Seri Bayu and Lima Kedai.

“We hope once the mitigation project is completed, flooding in these areas will be resolved,” he said.

Separately, Johor Baru district officer Muzaldin Mohamed said a total of RM135,000 had been allocated by the state government for 460 flood victims in Gelang Patah.

“The villagers are from Jelutong and Tanjung Kupang.

“Although the amount given is small, we hope that it will be able to ease their burden, especially those who have lost their source of income,” Muzaldin said.

Besides cash, flood victims also received aid from Iskandar Puteri Foundation and the private sector in the form of daily necessities and home appliances, he added.
