Located within the historical enclave of Dataran Merdeka, the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery on Jalan Raja is often overlooked by tourists and local visitors.
The two-storey gallery is located inside a heritage building built in 1898, which was formerly used as the Government Printing Office.
Here, visitors have a chance to learn about the history of Kuala Lumpur through a collection of old photographs, publications and miniature models of the city’s popular landmarks.
Reproductions of posters dating back to 1897 and infographics, with facts and figures about iconic figures who had a role in the evolution of Malaysia’s capital, can be found here.
Visitors can also learn about Kuala Lumpur’s heritage buildings such as the old Court of Appeal, Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Royal Selangor Club.
The highlight in the gallery is the Spectacular City Model Show, found on the first floor.
This is a 12m by 15m model, on a scale of 1:1500, that showcases the city’s past, present and future buildings through advanced multimedia projection mapping.
The gallery opens daily from 9am to 6.30pm.
