Sinkhole in Jalan Permaisuri to take a month to repair

Ongoing repair work at the sinkhole at Jalan Permaisuri in Kajang.

The 6m-deep sinkhole along Jalan Permaisuri, Bandar Mahkota Cheras in Kajang, Selangor, will likely take one month to be fixed.

It appeared two weeks ago when a contractor was installing power cables.

That was when Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) clay pipes were damaged, causing water to seep into the soil which later gave way, resulting in the sinkhole.

Incumbent Kajang assemblyman Hee Loy Sian said workers who were laying 11kv power cables to increase power capacity in the area had accidentally drilled into the clay pipes.

“The device they used can detect metal only,” said Hee at a press conference at the site.

“Repair works are ongoing but they can only be carried out at night as they involve heavy machinery that may obstruct traffic if work is done during the day,” he added.

Also present were IWK and Tenaga Nasional Bhd officials as well as Kajang Municipal councillor Lim Kim Eng.

Hee said metal stiles had been in put in place to prevent further soil displacement.
