i-City reaffirms its commitment to the growth and prosperity of Shah Alam through its One Shah Alam One Destination programme.

The collaborative programme between i-City and 5-Star DoubleTree by Hilton Shah Alam i-City, Best Western Hotel and Central i-City Mall is set to redefine the city’s tourism landscape, driving an impressive five million footfalls into i-City during the November 2023 to January 2024 period.

This will benefit not only tourism-reliant businesses within the development but also the entire Shah Alam community.

The One Shah Alam One Destination programme represents a bold step towards leaving a global imprint for Shah Alam as a global destination for B-leisure initiatives.

Apart from the fact that i-City is located in the heart of Shah Alam, the capital city of Selangor, it is also just 15 minutes’ drive from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang and 30 minutes from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, Westport in Klang and the KL city centre.

In its transformation process, Shah Alam is today home to the world’s first 5-Star DoubleTree by Hilton, equipped with international-standard facilities for visitors to i-City.

Since its official opening in August 2023 by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, this prestigious business hotel has been consistently achieving an impressive occupancy rate and is rated as a top-performing hotel for Hilton in Malaysia.

The One Shah Alam One Destination programme is aimed at offering a wholesome stay experience in i-City for visitors, be they on leisure or business, through events and attraction activities and also in attracting new footfall into Shah Alam.

The One Shah Alam One Destination programme will focus on Shah Alam’s strengths, such as entertainment attractions, culture and business-friendly infrastructure, to attract a specific niche of tourists and complement Kuala Lumpur’s broader tourism offerings.

In gearing up towards the year-end festivities, i-City will showcase new lightscapes befitting the festivities theme, together with another new snow attraction – Snow Experience Centre, featuring 5D rides with immersive and interactive features, and 50,000 sq ft of Digital Sports Arena catering for the entire family from the young ones to seniors, among others.

Partners from the tourism, leisure and retail industries will come together to add to the vibrancy of Shah Alam with activities such as glamping, grand bazaars and night runs. The activities are planned to provide visitors with more engaging and meaningful travel experiences.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who presented DoubleTree by Hilton Shah Alam with the 5-Star City Hotel certification recently, said the landscape of tourism had changed.

He said tourists did not want the old travel pattern of rushing here and there to rather normal attractions.

They are instead looking for deeper and more meaningful travel experiences of our local cultures, attractions, ecological treasures and cuisines.

He also said that at the federal level, the ministry acknowledged the significance of B-leisure travellers to the economy as they were willing to invest in premium experiences, accommodations, dining and more.

Their spending significantly contributes to the tourism sector’s revenue, supports the local economy, and creates business and employment opportunities for the locals.
