A ROAD connecting Bandar Tasik Puteri and Kundang in Kuang, Selangor, is being taken over by the state Public Works Department (JKR) to ensure it can be better maintained.

The 4km Jalan Kebun was a shortcut formerly used by plantation workers and in recent years, it was used as a public road, said Selayang MP William Leong.

It is presently under the jurisdiction of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd.

“The road was not properly connected in the past.

“From the road, we can enter Latar Expressway but we cannot enter Jalan Kebun from the expressway,” said Leong.

“This year, JKR has spent RM1.37mil on repairs and maintenance using a one-off allocation from Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris).

“However, the road needs to be surrendered to either the state or the Federal Government for it to be maintained well. The process is taking place.

“There have been numerous accidents due to the poor condition,” he added.

On another matter, Leong said the replacement bridge over Sungai Kundang in Jalan Kundang was completed in October last year.

The bridge cost RM11mil and was a project undertaken by JKR.

Leong said there were numerous incidents of flooding before the bridge was built, and since its completion there has been no flood incident.

He said the bridge was also necessary to reduce traffic congestion.

Leong added that he had received RM200,000 under his parliamentary budget from the Prime Minister’s Department to build an office and public toilets near the basketball court in Kampung Baru Kuang.

The court is expected to be ready by October this year.
