State polls: Altimet puts music on hold to contest Lembah Jaya

MUSIC composer, rapper and entrepreneur Syed Ahmad Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, better known as Altimet in the industry, will sing a different tune this time around for his Lembah Jaya candidacy.

Although the last song he sang was in 2019, the Ampang PKR division chief will give his 150% in winning this seat in the Selangor polls.

He said he will not be releasing any songs this time around to concentrate on his campaign trail.

“I am lucky to be given the chance to be the people’s representative for Lembah Jaya.

“It’s going to be a straight, clean fight with a formidable opponent,” he said referring to PAS candidate Sharifah Haslizah Syed Ariffin from Perikatan Nasional.

Sharifah Hazlizah is Ampang PAS information chief and former councillor with Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

At 10.35am outside Dewan Dato Ahmad Razali in Kampung Melayu Ampang, returning officer Dr Ani Ahmad announced the candidates for Bukit Antarabangsa and Lembah Jaya state seats following the successful submission of nomination papers by all parties.

In Lembah Jaya, in 2018, PKR defector Haniza Talha who joined Parti Bangsa Malaysia won the seat with 22,512 votes.

Altimet said his first agenda is to have more open communication with his constituents to address their issues.

“The lack of communication is frustrating; some of them are hesitant to come forward.

“We have to reach out and help them; Lembah Jaya is smaller than Bukit Antarabangsa but we have a (sizeable) number of 62,777 voters,” he said.

He gave an example of Selangor’s Darul Ehsan Water Scheme (SADE), which benefits B40 households by providing water at subsidised rate.

“Many people don’t know about this incentive from the state government, so we tell them they have to fill out forms and apply,” he said.

Altimet arrived in a dapper red baju Melayu at about 8.35am outside the nomination centre at Dewan Dato Ahmad Razali flanked by about 300 Pakatan supporters with Bukit Antarabangsa candidate Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin.

It will be a three-cornered fight for Bukit Antarabangsa with Kamri, Muda’s Melanie Ting, 23, a law graduate and Muda’s chief of staff, and PN’s Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif from Bersatu, also a lawyer.

In GE14 in 2018, incumbent and Perikatan Nasional information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali won the seat with 30,892 votes.
