SARAWAK’s Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng has pledged to fund SMK Sacred Heart’s installation of LED panels.

He went to inspect the site following a request by Sacred Heart Old Students Association (Shosa) secretary Eddy Puah.

“I was approached by Puah on a flight to Kuching and he explained how the Knights of Shosa had been raising money on their own to help the school.

“I was deeply touched by how passionate these former students were in raising RM120,000 to refurbish the school hall’s sound system and two lecture halls, RM88,000 to help underprivileged students and another RM400,000 to settle debts arising from the school’s massive redevelopment,” said Chieng.

He found out that Shosa was looking for help to fund an LED screen for the school hall.

The assemblyman said the alumni was willing to accept any form of assistance.

“They told me it didn’t matter if it was RM10 or RM10,000 in aid of their school, they would be equally grateful,” he added.

Chieng said he had long admired how the school’s alumni were steadfast in their commitment to help their alma mater long after their graduation.

On the LED panel project, he called on Shosa Knights to offer proposals and to serve as consultants.

“Let us work together to ensure that it is money well spent on a product,” he added.

Chieng was also invited to witness the handing over of financial assistance from Shosa to two students, one who needed a pair of glasses and another whose house was razed in a fire.
