Stepping up to the plate for arts’ sake

THE Ipoh Fine Arts Society (Ifas) will be presenting a multicultural dance performance next week.

The society will be roping in the ASK Dance Company, which is composed of professional dancers from multi-ethnic backgrounds.

Ifas president L. Shanti said the show titled “Triple Faces” would be held at the RTM Auditorium in Ipoh, Perak, on Aug 11 at 8pm.

She said the proceeds from the show and donations would be used by Ifas for future projects.

“The production team (ASK) has staged performances in many countries across Europe and Asia, and are graduates of the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage,” she added.

Shanti said the production drew inspiration from Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage to present a dazzling array of dances.

“‘Triple Faces’ beautifully portrays our ethnic diversity, with exceptional performances of Malay, Chinese and Indian dances.

“The performances include Bharatanatyam, contemporary and even Mongolian dances,” she said.

She added that the programme would also feature Shankar Kandasamy, a doyen of the dance world.

“We hope people will come to watch the extraordinary talented dancers on stage in Ipoh,” said Shanti.

She said the ASK Dance Company had received numerous awards including gold medals at World Championships of Performing Arts, Selangor Youth Talent Award 2011, Boh Cameronian Arts Awards for Performance, Choreography and various other categories and distinguished international prizes.

“The dance company has become a shining example of Malaysia’s plurality through its dance repertoire and the ethnicity of company members,” she added.
