SELANGOR has a new ecotourism attraction in the form of Mangrove Point, a park amid the lush setting of mangrove trees within a coastal forest in Port Klang.

The park had its soft launch in conjunction with the annual International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem.

The area was developed under the Selangor Maritime Gateway project by the state government, through Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) together with the Selangor Forestry Department.

Based on a biophilic (love of nature) concept, the design incorporates the outdoors into the built environment.

LLSB corporate services director Nini Shazrina Ahmad Shamli was present at the soft launch.

“Our aim for Mangrove Point is to set a new standard for sustainable development.

“Klang’s inaugural park is designed to promote a biophilic environment that serves as a therapeutic oasis for relaxation and meditation.

“Hopefully it will attract visitors and the locals,” she said.

One of the key considerations for Mangrove Point was controlled development and minimal disruption to the existing area.

Nini said that no heavy machinery was used to create Mangrove Point.

“Our attractions include a 1km-long boardwalk loop and glamping sites.

“We plan to build a jetty sometime next year,” she said.

She added that the jetty would connect visitors from Pengkalan Batu on Jalan Tepi Sungai to Mangrove Point by river taxis.

Nini said the mangrove park implemented sustainable landscape design practices that prioritised the preservation of the ecosystem.

“Mangrove Point offers visitors an idyllic retreat from the urban hustle and bustle, enabling them to immerse themselves in the embrace of nature.

“The park’s design allows visitors to explore the lush mangrove forest alongside the serene Sungai Klang.

“Resting spaces along the walkways encourage visitors to pause, reflect and appreciate the surrounding natural beauty.

“Observation decks specially designed for birdwatching provide an up-close encounter with the vibrant avian life inhabiting Mangrove Point,” she said.

“Visitors may also be able to observe large mud skippers and striking blue crabs along the swamp floor.”

Nini added that fishing enthusiasts were welcome to indulge in their hobby at the dedicated angler’s deck.

The park at Jalan Gerudi, Kawasan 14, Port Klang is open from 10am to 5pm daily. Entrance is free.
