SIMPANG Renggam’s strategic location and accessibility make it ideal for the construction of a logistics hub there, according to Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

“Simpang Renggam is between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

“It is also easy to get to Simpang Renggam as motorists can access it through the Machap, Ayer Hitam or Simpang Renggam interchanges.

“We have started discussions with the Simpang Renggam District Council president and district officer to identify an area suitable for the logistics hub,” he said at a press conference after attending a meet-and-greet session with Simpang Renggam residents at Dewan Terbuka Taman Perling.

Onn Hafiz added that an initial proposal for the logistics hub had been developed.

“A first draft has been drawn up. The Johor government will study the matter thoroughly before any decision is made at the state executive council level.

“I hope we will have something more concrete by year-end.”

He said infrastructure issues such as upgrading of roads had to be looked into before the logistics plan could take off.

“I believe the area will see robust development once the North-South Expressway has been widened,” he said in his speech.

Onn Hafiz, who is also Machap assemblyman, said he wanted Simpang Renggam to be developed further not only in logistics.

“We are also looking at developing the agriculture industry in the area.

“The state has a lot of plans for Simpang Renggam and I will give my commitment and assistance in seeing to its development.”
