THE Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin officiated at the Wakaf Rumah KanWork project at the Cancer Network Association (KanWork) Charity Hi-Tea 2023.

Held at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang, Selangor, the event was held to raise funds for those affected by cancer as well as to educate the public on the disease.

Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also received donations from Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Premier Integrated Labs to be used for the organisation’s activities.

The Wakaf Rumah KanWork project which started early this year was dependent on donation of properties for use by the organisation.

KanWork received donation of a house recently in Damansara Utama, to be used as a one-stop centre for cancer patients, families of those battling the disease and the public.

KanWork director Dr Mazanah Muhamad said the house would be used to provide information regarding cancer, counselling, and to facilitate activities promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“We all come from different backgrounds and walks of life, but all of us are affected by cancer, whether as a patient, survivor, or supporter of those battling it, which is why we must strive to help as much as we can,” she said.

Mazanah said that RM200,000 was still needed for renovations of the house but hoped to begin operations by the end of the year.

She added that KanWork hoped more people will step up in the fight against cancer.

Besides donations, KanWork encourages involvement of the public in their activities and accepts volunteers interested in helping out.
