State polls: Amanah's Danial aims to increase public involvement in Batu Tiga's progress

Pakatan Harapan-Amanah candidate for Batu Tiga state seat Danial Al Rashid (light green shirt) greets constituents at a restaurant in Batu Tiga during his campaign walkabouts.

AMANAH'S candidate for Batu Tiga, Danial Al Rashid, says stakeholders' interests will be the focus in each proposed development in the constituency to ensure that these projects are sustainable.

“Pakatan Harapan promises that each proposed development or infrastructure upgrade will at all times prioritise the wellbeing and interests of all residents in Batu Tiga,” he said after meeting constituents at a local restaurant on Wednesday (Aug 9).

“Our aim is ... to involve people for (establishing) sustainable cities and communities. We aim to advance the implementation of basic amenities and public infrastructure that will improve wellbeing,” he said.

Danial, an adjunct associate professor with a private university, noted that a key point of his manifesto for the coming Selangor election is to increase public involvement in development.

Danial, 37, said Batu Tiga is a place of opportunity for the younger generation.

“Pakatan will foster relevant job opportunities so they can thrive and contribute to their families and communities.

"Women will also get attention through the strengthening of their social involvement via government programmes,” he said.

Danial acknowledged the need to involve young people in the development process and said it would take a few years to implement changes that would enhance their lives and opportunities.

On the gig economy, Danial said there was a need to care for the welfare of the workers through training and empowerment with new skills that would also help transform the local labour market.

“We have independent workers or freelancers who perform short-term jobs. The relevant skills (training) will allow them to find better employment opportunities in the gig economy.

"It will result in more people having access to decent working conditions, higher wages and more flexible working hours,” he said.

Danial also said there is an opportunity to align the gig economy with local industries in Batu Tiga in a way that will boost productivity and reduce costs, ultimately benefitting the freelance workers.

With a total of 75,486 voters, Batu Tiga's electorate comprises 56,536 Malays, 11,662 Indians, 5,636 Chinese, 434 Sabahans, 188 Sarawakians, 15 Orang Asli and 1,015 of other ethnicities.

Batu Tiga was won by Pakatan's Rodziah Ismail in 2018 with a 15,616-vote majority.

On Saturday (Aug 12), Danial will be up against Muda’s Saiyidah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen, 35, a lawyer; and former minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun of Perikatan Nasional.
