FORMER local councillor Muhamad Muhaimin Harith Abdullah Sani from Bersatu is banking on his political background and public service to woo voters in the Batang Kali state seat.

The 40 year-old, who resides in Antara Gapi in Hulu Selangor, is a father of four children, all below the age of 11.

He served as a councillor with the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) from 2016 to 2019 and is Perikatan Nasional Hulu Selangor information chief.

“During my stint with MPHS, I initiated the construction of the mini stadium in Serendah and addressed many streetlight issues throughout Serendah.

“I also initiated the Sri Kandi Desa Selangor, which now has about 4,000 members and encouraged mostly youth to join politics," he said when met recently.

Muhamad Muhaimin said Selangor should take care of the people's welfare and the community in Batang Kali should be given priority as many were in the B40 group.

He said many people he spoke to were fed up with Malaysian politics because they felt it was driven by personal gain.

“As someone who was fired by PKR in 2019 and joined Bersatu last year, my aim is to serve the people here as best I can.

“There are about 86,000 voters in Batang Kali, and I hope the people will support me," he said.

Muhamad Muhaimin will have a straight fight with Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Mohd Isa Abu Kasim from Umno.

Mohd Isa, 58, is a son of a rubber tapper and grew up helping his father on a 1.3ha plot at Ulu Rening, Batang Kali.

He was Batang Kali assemblyman from 2008 to 2013.

The seat was vacated in February after its assemblyman Harumaini Omar of Pejuang failed to attend state assembly meetings for more than six months.

In the last Selangor election in 2018, Harumaini – then with Bersatu, which was with Pakatan Harapan at the time – beat Barisan candidate Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan with a majority of 8,315 votes.
