Old-world charm of KL Chinatown

Visitors thronging Petaling Street in search of good food and bargains.

Petaling Street, or Chinatown as it’s also known, is one of the major tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur.

Famous for its scrumptious varieties of street food and beverages, the street and surrounding area is a food haven for those who want to savour some of the notable local delights.

Locals and international tourists are also in for a treat shopping at Petaling Street with the myriad of goods on offer here.

There are also a lot of traditional and newly established businesses and fancy restaurants that have sprung up, giving visitors alternative options to shop and dine.

One of the attractions nearby is the Kwai Chai Hong, which means “Little Ghost Lane” or “Little Demon Alley”.

The alley is a restored heritage lane that takes one back in time to the city’s bygone days.

Here, you can check out the specially curated wall art depicting scenes from the past as well as popular Hong Kong movies.

These murals are also interactive as they come with a QR code which, when scanned, will show a clip featuring that particular scene from the murals.

At night, lanterns that are hung high along Lorong Panggung, just beside Kwai Chai Hong, turn the area into an instagrammable paradise for tourists.

A short walking distance from Central Market, Chinatown is located opposite the Kotaraya Shopping Complex.
