DETAILS of the Madani Economy’s framework, especially involving aid for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), should be outlined to ensure transparency.
Johor Indian Petty Traders and Small Business Association chairman D. Ravindran said the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim failed to give clear details on how the aid would be distributed and when the MSMEs would get the aid to expand their operations.
“I hope the federal or state government can share the details,” he said when contacted.
Ravindran added that Madani Economy was a holistic approach by the unity government to help businesses expand and digitalise operations, regardless of size.
“However, we would also like Indian MSMEs in the country to get special attention,” he said.
“I hope the government can set up a support group to teach owners to better manage their online operations.”
Desa Tebrau Foodtruck Entrepreneur Association chairman Mohd Redzuan Shah Ahmad said the RM100mil matching grant allocated by the government was welcomed.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has caused consumers to be more prudent in their spending but MSMEs depend on local demand for revenue,” he said.
“By expanding online to reach a larger market, we can secure and strengthen our business while recouping losses caused by the pandemic.
“However, we need the government’s help to penetrate foreign markets.”
Mohd Redzuan said going international required more certification as well as better quality and higher level of production.
“It will not be possible to achieve this without guidance from government agencies,” he said.
Perbadanan Usahawan Johor executive director Mohd Radzi Mohd Amin said one of the best ways to promote MSMEs was to help link them to online platforms to sell their products.
