In A display of unity and compassion, volunteers from Great Heart Charity Association teamed up with AIESEC (International Association of Students in Economics and Commercial Sciences) members from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, to improve living conditions and bring hope to those in rural areas.

For the Wings of Change project, they joined forces to empower local communities in Meewaobe, in the Matale district of central Sri Lanka.

According to villagers, up to 60% of the area’s population suffered from chronic kidney disease directly linked to the consumption of polluted water.

The volunteers established a cutting-edge water purification plant using advanced reverse osmosis technology to provide clean, safe drinking water to over 500 families.

To fund the project, the team raised RM30,000.

“The impact of our collaborative initiatives goes beyond physical infrastructure and clean water supply.

“It is about empowering communities, igniting hope and creating a brighter future for those in need,” said Great Heart Charity co-founder Ric See.

The team said installation of the clean water supply system, accompanied by a “handprint” mural on the side wall, reflected the positive impact that could be achieved through collective efforts.

The charity also distributed books, stationery and school bags to Darmapradeepa Primary School and Darmapradeepa Kindergarten in Nugagolla, positively impacting the lives of up to 450 young learners.
