TWO weeks of intense campaigning for elections in six states have come to an end.

The culmination of polling day on Aug 12 saw the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional alliance and rival Perikatan Nasional retaining power in their previously held states.

Since Sunday, many of the winning candidates have been going on walkabouts to personally thank voters for giving them the mandate to serve as their elected representatives.

The end of this democratic process also means that the political parties’ election machinery have been busy taking down banners and flags decorating streets and public areas that contributed to the election fever. The Pakatan alliance won control of Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang.

Perikatan, meanwhile, retained Kedah, Kelantan and made a clean sweep of Terengganu.

It was a close fight in many areas, with some winning by razor-thin margins in Selangor.

Winning candidates celebrated with their supporters at tallying centres after the announcement, while some from the losing team raised concerns on discrepancies in the results, such as Sungai Kandis with a slim majority of 167 votes.
