RESIDENTS are hoping improvements along Jalan Segambut Dalam will help reduce the number of accidents there.

Several LED street lamps, 10 flashing amber lights, three speed breakers and rumble strips were installed to alert motorists on dangerous turnings along the road.

Three additional road humps were also constructed.

Segambut Residents’ Representative Council (MPP) chairman Budihardi Sabei said he received many complaints on the poorly lit road.

“The stretch from Jalan 1/61 to Jalan 6/38j along the Jalan Segambut Dalam junction was dark for many years.

“Motorists tend to speed on this road, and it is dangerous especially at the turning between two junctions.

“I hope we do not have to deal with accidents anymore as the new street lamps have brightened up the stretch,” he said, urging motorists to exercise caution especially at night.

On May 10, two motorcyclists, aged 19 and 20, were killed in a head-on collision along Jalan Segambut Dalam.

This prompted Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh to raise her concerns about road safety to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Following this, personnel from City Hall’s engineering and drainage as well as urban transportation departments visited the site a few times.

Road safety works, carried out by DBKL and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), were completed in mid-July.

Yeoh’s political secretary Yap Yee Vonne thanked DBKL and TNB for their prompt action.

“Jalan Segambut Dalam is the main road, and many use it to get to Kepong and Mont Kiara,” she said.

“With the additional safety features in place, I hope motorists exercise caution and slow down while using the road,” she said.
