MELAKA: Renowned Korean pianist Lee Kwan Shik will perform at the 18th-century Christ Church at Bandar Hilir here next month.
When contacted on Monday (Aug 21), Lee said he is holding the concert for charity purposes in conjunction with the anniversary of the oldest functioning Protestant church in the country that was opened in 1753.
The concert will be held on Sept 17 (Sunday) at the church which is next to the historical icon - The Stadthuys.
Lee, the father of an eight-year-old daughter, has also made Malaysia his home.
Lee's musical journey began in his childhood, and he has achieved remarkable success in numerous competitions.
He pursued a Doctoral of Musical Arts program at the University of Hartford, in the United States.
He has performed as a recitalist, concerto soloist, and accompanist at prestigious venues such as the Sejong Concert Hall for the Performing Arts and Warsaw's Chopin Museum in Poland.
Lee's performances have spanned across the United States, Europe, and Asia, captivating audiences with his passion for solo, duo, chamber, and ensemble playing.
During his studies in the United States, Lee was selected for The Hartt School's Performance 20/20 chamber music programme and he received the Evelyn Bonar Storrs Piano Scholarship.
He has also won top prizes in international piano competitions and participated in master classes around the world.
Upon returning to South Korea, Lee continued to make his mark as a pianist, participating in prestigious recitals, festivals, and concerts.
He has performed as a concerto soloist with renowned orchestras and has been actively involved in teaching, holding positions at several universities.
Lee continues to engage in performances and educational activities worldwide.
His passion for music and dedication to his craft have established Lee as a prominent figure in the international music scene.
