Residents can vie for RM25,000 in contests to boost patriotic spirit

IN conjunction with National Month, Perak government is collaborating with the Information Department (Japen) in a series of competitions with prizes totalling RM25,000.

The contests are open to all Perak residents, with the closing date on Aug 25.

Perak Japen director Mohd Rizal Hashim said the competitions aimed to boost patriotism through creativity and knowledge while encouraging people to show their love for the country.

“The competitions are Pertandingan Keceriaan Bulan Kebangsaan, Merdeka Tiktok Video Contest, Mobile Instagram Photo Contest and Online Crossword,” he said in a press conference.

Mohd Rizal said the objective of the Keceriaan Bulan Kemerdekaan contest was to strengthen the patriotic spirit through creativity and innovation in flying the Jalur Gemilang.

The contests are divided into three categories – secondary schools, primary schools and government/private buildings.

“The winner will get RM3,000, runner-up RM2,000 and third prize is RM1,000 together with plaques and certificates,” he said.

On the Merdeka Tiktok competition, he said participants must produce a creative video of at least 30 seconds to showcase the spirit of independence using elements of the state’s culture, history, iconic buildings or any other suitable theme.

Prizes range from RM700 cash in first spot to RM150 consolation places.

The Mobile Instagram competition is based on significant moments of nationalism, natural beauty and cultural heritage during National Month.

“Use your smartphone and snap a photo with the Malaysian flag. The top three winners will receive RM700, RM500 and RM300 respectively,” he said, adding that there were also five consolation prizes.

The Online Crossword competition will cover topics such as independence and the history of the country and Perak.

Besides this, participants must create a slogan to express the meaning of independence with the “Malaysia Madani” and “Perak Sejahtera 2030” themes.

“Winners will be selected based on correct answers and catchy slogans.

“The first prize of RM500, second prize RM300, third place RM200 and 10 consolation prizes worth RM100 each await participants,” he said.
