City council wins two golds, two silvers in innovation, invention contest

SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) won a total of four medals at the two-day Innovation and Invention Competition through Exhibition (iCompEx) organised by Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (Polimas) in Jitra, Kedah.

iCompEx is an annual competition and exhibition of innovative projects or new discoveries organised by Polimas and held within its premises.

It serves as a platform for participants to promote their research results to the public and to encourage researchers to produce original innovations or creations.

iCompEx is open to researchers from all over Malaysia, including polytechnics, community colleges, vocational colleges, industrial training institutes, national youth skills institutes, government agencies, private agencies and schools.

“Two groups won a gold medal each, namely Xcelsior for the ‘eNotifikasi’ SMS alert system for assessment tax bills to make it easier for property owners to check and pay their bills online, and Kitar 7 for their ‘Re-Rosta’ project,” MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Division head Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif said in a statement.

“‘Re-Rosta’ is an initiative to encourage recycling among low-cost flat residents by providing facilities for them to drop off dry recyclable materials without needing to go to dedicated recycling centres.”

Badan Dakwah MBSA and Jitu groups each took home the silver medal for their respective projects.

“Badan Dakwah MBSA created the ‘Quran Time’ initiative to make it easier for staffers and congregants to read and recite the Al-Quran,” said Mohd Azhar.

“Jitu’s ‘KMM Simple’ system aims to improve the workflow for the public when applying permits to place tables and chairs in public spaces. The system calculates the charges based on the size of the area.

“MBSA also received the Special Loyalty Award at iCompEx, in recognition of the city council’s annual participation in the competition since 2016.”

The city council expressed hope that the awards would inspire MBSA’s workforce to continue providing the best in serving the public.
