THE Perak government wants 3,000 more traders to opt for cashless payments by the end of this year, says state entrepreneur development committee chairman Salbiah Mohamed.
“There is a lot of awareness that needs to be done to educate traders on the benefits of going cashless.
“While we have set a target of 3,000, we are hoping that more would be interested in going cashless,” she told reporters after visiting a farmers’ market near Stadium Perak in Ipoh.
Salbiah said the state worked with about 10 banks on this.
“By going cashless, not only will it benefit the traders and their business, it is also good for the environment.
“Some traders, especially the small ones, are still opting for the traditional method since they need quick access to cash.
“The state and banks involved will try to educate the traders about the cashless system,” she added.
A vegetable trader who wished to be known as Sal, said her customers preferred cash.
“We have the option to pay via QR code, but our customers who spend between RM1 and RM5 prefer cash.
“Only those who buy in bulk or spend more than RM30 will use the QR code to make payment,” she added. — By ILI AQILAH
