‘Adopt spayed and neutered animals for free’

AN animal shelter in Pekan Nanas, Johor, is appealing for more people to adopt instead of buying pets.

Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter spay and neutering programme animal welfare coordinator Hana Elle Tan said the shelter’s animals were already spayed and neutered.

“We have many cats and dogs waiting to be adopted for free,” she said when contacted.

“Adopting former strays will give them a second chance.

“However, many people prefer to buy pedigree cats and dogs and some of these pets are abandoned when they get old or sick,” she said.

Noah’s Ark is also collaborating with Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) to offer spay and neuter services at affordable rates.

Tan said pet owners could send their cats and dogs for spaying and neutering at Noah’s Animal Clinic at Taman Pulai Hijauan in Kangkar Pulai, Johor Baru.

The rates are between RM120 and RM200 per cat and RM220 to RM400 for a dog.

Tan noted that some contractors keep stray dogs at project sites to prevent theft.

Unfortunately, once the projects are completed, these canines are left behind, she said.

“Their numbers will multiply over time,’’ she said, urging the authorities to take action against those who dump their pets.
