THOUSANDS of residents can expect to see better roads and walkways in Dutamas, Segambut, after almost a decade of putting up with bad infrastructure.
The two-month project by the Segambut MP’s office and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), which started in mid-August, also involves upgrading of pavements and drainage systems.
Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh’s political secretary Yap Yee Vonne said road resurfacing works at the intersection between Jalan Dutamas Seroja and Jalan Dutamas Raya began last Friday.
“The work involving a 1.5km stretch is to address severe congestion and repair damaged sidewalks in the residential area,” she said at a press conference along Jalan Dutamas Raya yesterday.
She said the road was heavily used because the area had at least 16 condominiums with more than 4,000 residents as well as a French school.
Potholes and uneven drainage were spotted during StarMetro’s visit to the area.
Dutamas Raya Residents Association president Ajitpal Singh said these problems had persisted for more than eight years, hence it was important for upgrading to be carried out.
Yap said good road conditions were necessary for motorists’ safety.
“We ask that Dutamas Raya residents be patient for two months while DBKL carries out the project,”she added.
Segambut Residents Repre-sentative Council (MPP) Sub Zone 5 chairman Dr Abdul Basir Kunhimohamed said residents were appreciative that the work had started.
Two residents who were walking by the construction area took the opportunity to suggest to Yap that the pavements should be covered as debris was falling into drains.
In response, Yap said the drains, which were being upgraded as well, would also be cleaned.
