Satisfying craving for crabs

The scalding tiger Prawns comes with a specialty dip made from Japanese soy sauce, bird’s eye chillies and wasabi for an extra kick.

Craving some chunky juicy crabs but having to deny yourself because it is considered an indulgence only to be savoured on special occasions?

You can now let yourself indulge, as Delay No More Crab Restaurant is introducing affordable seafood and crab dishes that can be enjoyed anytime.

Famed for its seafood dishes, especially crabs, the restaurant is a cosy and inviting sanctuary for seafood lovers.

The yellow oil crab congee, one of their signature dishes, proved to be the ultimate comfort food winner.

Made to resemble a Teochew-style porridge, the dish has soft granules of rice cooked in a superior soup with preserved dried cabbage and a whole crab.

The dish was well-seasoned with the broth oozing with the unmistakeable umami of the fresh crustacean.

The firm flesh of the crab meat was sweet and delicate with a thick cluster of bright orange crab roe nestled snugly beneath the shell.

Restaurant co-owner YT Thaver said it was holding several promotions at its eatery in Tropicana Gardens Mall in Petaling Jaya.

“The small portion of crab congee for two is priced at RM48++ while a steamed fish set starts from RM128++.

“Diners can choose their choice of fish including siakap (RM128++), patin (RM168++) and tiger grouper (RM258++), and they come with a plate of sweet and sour chicken.

“This hearty seafood meal is perfect for a family of four,” he said.

The restaurant has three outlets. The others are at Hartamas Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur and IOI City Mall in Putrajaya.

As for the steamed fish, the fragrant and tangy Thai-style sauce paired perfectly with the fish which was served with clams and prawns.

Top favourites include salted egg lava crab and salt-baked crab.

The creamy salted egg yolk known for its unique and addictive flavour coats the crab, adding a rich, luscious texture with a velvety consistency.

The mix of natural sweetness and brininess of the chunky crab meat perfectly complements the savoury notes of the sauce.

The crab can be eaten with mini fried mantou that nicely mops up the salted egg sauce.

Meanwhile, the salt-baked crab’s natural flavours were enhanced using a simple cooking method.

Its sweetness was preserved and the meat was given prominence while the salt imparted a subtle savoury taste.

Besides the much sought-after crustacean, other dishes also exceeded my expectations.

The mixed vegetable curry, for example, was rich and appetising.

Its creamy texture came to the fore with the addition of evaporated milk.

The curry was served with brinjal, long beans, okra, cabbage and a good mix of tau pok (fried beancurd puff). It was simply divine when eaten with a bowl of piping hot white rice.

Diners have the choice of either fish or chicken to accompany the curry.

Another memorable vegetable dish was the stir-fried eggplant with superior soya sauce and anchovies.

The Scalding Tiger Prawns with special sauce were fresh and plump. The prawns were perfectly paired with a specialty dip made from Japanese soy sauce, bird’s eye chillies and wasabi for an extra kick.

Other dishes to try are aromatic crispy duck and stir-fried kai lan with black and osmanthus fungus.
