IN conjunction with the National Day Month, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) is organising its “MBSJ Merdeka Madani” programme to nurture patriotism among the community and school students.

“The council is organising three programmes in line with this year’s National Day theme, Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope),” MBSJ’s corporate and strategic management department said in a statement.

Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali launched the programmes after MBSJ’s last full board meeting.

“We hope the programmes will encourage city folk to embrace the spirit of National Day and foster unity among various races,” he said.

Kuiz Komuniti Merdeka offers a series of four quizzes.

Five winners will be picked for each series, with each winner taking home RM100.

The questions are posted weekly on MBSJ’s social media sites.

“Pertandingan Lagu Patriotik Generasi Bestari MBSJ 2023” is open to primary school pupils and secondary school students in areas under MBSJ’s administration.

Participants are required to sing a patriotic song of their choice.

The competition offers RM1,850 in cash prizes per school category, ranging from RM500 for first prize to RM150 per consolation prize.

There is also a special popular video award of RM200 for the video with the most likes.

Flag-flying via Kempen Kibar Jalur Gemilang is open to all communities under MBSJ’s jurisdiction, but registration must be done through the area’s Residents Representative Council (MPP).

There are three categories – housing areas, traditional villages and apartments.

The competition offers RM2,500 per category, ranging from RM1,000 in first place to RM250 as consolation prizes.

MBSJ is also urging owners of business premises, government buildings, private properties and residential houses to fly the Jalur Gemilang.
