RESIDENTS of Sibujaya in Sarawak are expected to enjoy better water pressure by the first quarter of next year.
Sibu Water Board (SWB) assistant general manager Siaw Kok Kiong said this improvement was expected following completion of the Phase II Kanowit Water Supply Project.
“The problem of low water pressure is faced by residents at flats, especially on upper floors.
“This problem only occurs during peak hours but in the evening, residents can still get water.
“A total of 700 units affected by this problem will benefit from the completion of the water supply project in Kanowit,” he said.
When asked about the cause of low water pressure problem, which had been plaguing residents of Sibujaya flats for a long time, Siaw said it was because of the location of water tanks for residents on the second and third floors.
He said the connection of new pipes after renovations by residents also affected the pressure.
“Phase II Kanowit Water Supply Project includes the installation of pipes, and the next two projects will completely solve the problem in the Sibujaya area,” he added.
Siaw said the Sibujaya flats had 40 four-storey blocks (40 units per block) with 1,400 SWB account holders.
Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said Sibujaya had approximately 7,050 SWB account holders with an average water consumption of 8,809m3 per day.
“We hope that the people of Sibujaya, especially in the affected areas, will be patient in waiting for the solution.
“SRDC will ensure that any difficulties that occur will be acted upon immediately,” he said.
Also present were SRDC deputy chairman Wong Ching Yong and secretary Ng Siang Wei.
Recently, Sarawak Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the Phase II Kanowit Water Supply Project costing RM63.5mil would be completed later than scheduled.
The first component involves the construction of the Durin booster station while the second is the construction of a high-level water tank with a capacity of 3.5 million litres per day in Bukong, Jagoi and Kanowit.
The third is the installation of a 55km pipe from Salim Sibu Water Plant to Kanowit.
