ROSE Charities and Quantum Metal Sdn Bhd distributed 1,000 gift hampers under a 1,000 Smiles and Cheers programme to help lighten the burden of the needy in Penang.

Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak attended the luncheon where the final batches of hampers were given out to eight charities.

Rose Charities Malaysia president Datuk Lawrence Cheah in his speech said the programme embodied compassion and solidarity.

He thanked sponsors and donors, making special mention of Quantum Metal founder and chairman Datuk Lim Khong Soon for his generous contribution.

Lim in his speech expressed hope that the contributions, however small or big, would have a positive impact on the lives of recipients.

Persatuan Kebajikan Masyarakat Insan Pulau Pinang chairman Dr Aishah Bee Abdullah said it was the first time the association had been picked to receive the aid.

“We are happy and touched by the contribution,” she said, adding that the association gave cash and foodstuff to single parents, students and those in the B40 category during festive occasions.

“We also sponsor back-to-school items for needy children,” Aishah said.
