Health officers checking food processing premises in Pandan Indah and Pandan Mewah for violations.
SOME food processing facilities in Ampang Jaya and Selayang in Selangor were given two-week closure notices for health and hygiene violations.
Two factories in Pandan Indah and Pandan Mewah in Ampang and a chicken abattoir in Taman Selayang Utama, Selayang,were deemed filthy during checks on Aug 24.
A 30-member team from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), Selangor Health Department and Hulu Langat District Health Office (PKDHL) found the presence of pests.
The team also found raw materials were not stored properly.
They gave the overall cleanliness of the premises checked a rating below 60%.
The two factories were issued an immediate 14-day closure under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
MPAJ said in a statement, “In total, eight compounds were issued by PKDHL under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 while MPAJ issued seven compounds for employing foreign workers and disposing of dirty water in public areas under Food Establishment Licensing Bylaw 2007 and Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.”

In addition to the two-week closure order, several workers handling food were issued compounds for not having had typhoid injections, having long fingernails and not wearing closed shoes.
“MPAJ will not take hygiene and food safety lightly.
“Owners, especially those involved in the processing, preparation and handling of food, are reminded to always comply with the regulations that have been set to ensure the food produced is clean, safe and will not affect the health of consumers,” MPAJ added.
In Selayang, the irresponsible actions of a chicken abattoir owner caused the drainage surrounding the facility to become clogged with offal, feathers and blood.

Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) said in a statement that officers also found that the discards had clogged Indah Water Konsortium pipes.
“Following a public complaint, MPS conducted checks and ordered a 14-day closure of the facility as per the licensing by-laws and Food Establishment Licensing Bylaw 2007.
“The owners were also ordered to clean up the premises.
“They were issued a RM500 compound for releasing effluent directly into the drains.”
