Volunteers recognised for social work

MAGNUM Corp Sdn Bhd (Magnum) won the Company of the Year award in the number forecast operator (NFO) category for social initiatives at the Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Malaysia Awards 2023.

The company’s CRS initiatives include giving cash aid, promoting sustainability and holding philanthropic activities for variousl underprivileged communities in Malaysia.

Last year saw Magnum continue its efforts to champion various causes from welfare and health to education and environment while also addressing targets set by the United Nation’s Sustainability Development Goals.

Magnum contributed significantly towards uplifting the lives of 26,000 needy people including the orang asli, the disabled, single mothers and refugee communities.

More than 1,300 hours were contributed by 250 Magnum employees under the newly established Magnum Volunteering Programme.

Among its notable initiatives to protect the environment were planting 500 trees, cleaning beaches and recycling over five tonnes of waste.

The volunteers also provided food and medical aid, cared for rescued animals and implemented sustainable practices at welfare homes.

At the same time, over 6,000 students benefitted from various educational and upskilling initiatives.

Magnum is also the only NFO in Malaysia to receive the highest level of Responsible Gaming certification awarded by the World Lottery Association.

Commenting on Magnum’s achievements in 2022, executive vice-president and group chief commercial officer Datuk Chan Chee Fai said: “We are honoured to receive this prestigious award.

“It is a testament to our commitment towards making a positive impact on the community we serve and the environment we operate in.“We want to drive meaningful change and create a more sustainable future for everyone.”

Magnum was further recognised with its inclusion in FTSE Russell’s FTSE4GOOD indices.

This is a testament to its CSR and environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

In 2021, the company was in the top 25% of ESG ratings achieved by publicly listed companies.

The annual Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards 2023 was organised by CSR Malaysia Publications and Pertubuhan Amal Tanggungjawab Kemapanan Dan Korporat Malaysia.

This year’s event, held at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, saw Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri in attendance.
