New tuition centre offers SPM lifeline to underprivileged students

The newly launched Kami Tuition Centre in Taman Sri Serdang Rukun Tetangga Community (KRT) in Selangor has received good response from parents and students alike.

Noraini Sharipudin, 42, said she was going to send her youngest son, fourth former Mohd Faris Muhd Iman, to the centre in preparation for his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

“This will reduce my burden as I also have to support my other children,” said Noraini, a restaurant worker from Bandar Baru Bangi.

“Thank you to the National Unity Ministry (KPN) for this initiative.

“I will be able to use the money that has been saved for my other children’s tuition fees.”

Siti Nur Amirah Ahmad Kamal, 28, who works in the private sector, plans to send her sister, Siti Hamizah, to the centre next year.

She said it was a good initiative as many from the B40 group were unable to afford tuition fees.

“Going for tuition is important to ensure a student is prepared for an examination.

“This gives those who are underprivileged the academic assistance they need,” said Siti Nur Amirah, who lives in Taman Sabha Impian, Kajang.

She said her sister, who would sit for the SPM next year, had never enrolled for any tuition as the family could not afford it.

The tuition centre, launched by National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, provides free additional education for underprivileged students at Taman Sri Serdang KRT.

The programme aims to help SPM 2024 candidates from low-income families improve their academic performance.

It is also part of the ministry’s social responsibility to the community in realising the government’s aspirations to empower the people through quality education.

It is a collaboration between KPN, Lembaga Tabung Haji, Universiti Putra Malaysia and the Education Ministry. — Bernama
