VISITORS to Hospital Sibu will be able to park with ease now that 118 parking bays have been added.

“I hope these additional bays can help alleviate parking problems here.

“I have been receiving a lot of complaints from the public on the difficulty in finding parking,” said Sibu MP Oscar Ling at the opening of the facility.

Phase two of the four-month project, which cost RM500,000, was completed last month.

Phase one, comprising 124 bays, was completed in 2019.

With the completion of phase two, the hospital now has 924 parking bays, of which 30% are reserved for staff.

On the proposal to upgrade Sibu and Miri hospitals to become regional centres, Ling said these were long-term projects which would involve increasing the facilities and medical staff at both hospitals.

“For Hospital Sibu, radiotherapy and heart centres are urgently needed.

“Currently, heart and cancer patients here have to be referred to the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching,” Ling said.
