Patriotic convoy makes 10 stops in Segambut

YOUNGER voices are needed alongside senior citizens’ to provide balanced views on community issues, said Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.

“It is mostly senior citizens who serve in residents associations.

“However, if young people’s voices are to be represented, whether it is about a park or what type of developments are suitable in their areas, we need to hear from them,” Yeoh said at a National Day event which saw 3,000 Malaysian flags distributed by a 30-vehicle convoy at 10 locations in her constituency.

“Whether it is promoting unity or giving out Malaysian flags, the next generation should be involved,” said Yeoh who is also Youth and Sports Minister.

All six subzones of the Segambut Residents Representative Council (MPP) were involved in the convoy which travelled more than 40km within the parliamentary constituency.

Members started their day at 5am by decorating their vehicles with flags before setting off at 7am.

The convoy, accompanied by Information Department vehicles and a police escort, made a total of 10 stops at Taman Tasik Menjalara in Kepong as well as several morning markets and commercial areas before ending at Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.

At the Bukit Damansara Community Hall stop, the convoy hoisted the Jalur Gemilang while singing the national anthem followed by three shouts of Merdeka.

A total of 3,000 Malaysian flags were distributed along the route as the department vehicles played patriotic songs such as Tanggal 31, Jalur Gemilang and Saya Anak Malaysia.

At the Santai Merdeka event hosted by the Friends of Bukit Kiara, which was the final stop, participants and community members gathered to enjoy a simple meal while enjoying music from a live band, clown appearance, balloon sculpture and face painting activities.

Also in attendance were police as well as Fire and Rescue Department personnel from the Taman Tun Dr Ismail stations.

Information Department Segambut parliamentary constituency coordinator Wan Muhammad Afiq Wan Mokhtar said events like these showed the collaborative spirit among agencies.

“We were greeted by much enthusiasm by Malaysians of all races along the route,” he said.
